Memory Corner is a feature of the Press Gang in flight travel magazine In issue number 2 printed for the trip to Exeter, Tony Green reminisces about the infamous ‘Camborne Wreck’ run to Newbury last season (2006/07). Just 1 year ago the reformed Press Gang embarked on their maiden voyage to Monks Lane for a league fixture against Newbury Blues.

I had booked a coach for the trip but with just twelve bookings needed something smaller as the match drew very near indeed.

So, armed with a copy of the Yellow Pages I set about rescuing the mission. After several phone calls we were saved by a rental firm from Camborne who offered a good deal on a minibus. A recommendation from a Camborne boy I knew swung the deal and the Press Gang were about to hit the road.

I turned up at their yard on the Friday evening full of hope but when I saw the bus my heart sank.

It was too late to back out now so we set off for Newbury early that Saturday morning with me driving and Echinnswell Pirate's dad, George riding shotgun. A combined age in the front row of 146.

I coaxed the bus through several pick-ups that morning with passengers squeezed in tightly, before jamming it in A forward gear and heading off up the motorway.

The Pirates won, which helped, but I still had to nurse that cursed bus back home.

Pirate Bert tried to stow away but it was no good, there was no room, so we threw him out him at the railway station! Again I was lucky to find a forward gear higher than second and we made it home late into the night with the clutch aglow.

The Press Gang has moved on a bit since then, as I`m sure you will agree. We strive to please our members on all trips and very much want to improve the service.

I hope you'll continue to support the Press Gang away travel and build on the success that started from very humble beginnings. Let us never forget the Camborne Wreck!
